Women’s Health Care Center of Houston has a comprehensive hormone counseling program that is overseen by two full-time nurse practitioners. Counseling is provided for PCOS, fertility, as well as perimenopausal and postmenopausal symptoms. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a disorder that affects 5-10% of women. Although the cause is not known, PCOS may be related to many factors working together. These factors include insulin resistance, an increased number of androgens, and an irregular menstrual cycle caused by a lack of regular ovulation. When ovulation does not occur regularly, multiple ovarian cysts may form. Other symptoms of PCOS may be infertility; obesity; excess hair growth on the face, chest, abdomen, or upper thighs; severe acne or acne that occurs after adolescence; and oily skin. We diagnose, counsel, and offer treatment options such as hormone therapy, treatment for insulin resistance, weight loss counseling, and fertility counseling and treatment for patients with PCOS.
